12 Amazing Women Who Will Compete for the U.S. at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 | Us Women's Volleyball Olympics
At the end of June, USA Volleyball announced the 12 women who will compete for the U.S. in the Olympics Tokyo 2020 later this month. This 12-person roster is subject to approval from the United States Olympic Committee, but barring any last-minute changes, these are the athletes who will represent their country on the biggest stage of them all in just two short weeks.
1) Carli Lloyd :-
Carli Lloyd is a three-time Olympic gold medalist, as well as two-time FIFA World Cup champion. She also has won four gold medals, a bronze medal and two silver medals in her international career with the United States women's national team. Lloyd scored a hat trick in the finals of both the 2007 and 2015 FIFA World Cups and she was named Player of the Match three times at those tournaments, including twice as Player of the Tournament—winning that award in both 2015 and 2019.
2) Alex Morgan :-
Alex Morgan is a professional soccer player and forward for Orlando Pride in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), as well as a member of the United States women's national soccer team and co-captain of the Orlando squad. She is also one of five players who have scored over 100 goals in international competition, ranking fourth all time among both male and female players.
3) Julie Ertz :-
Julie Ertz, who helped the U.S. win gold in 2016, is back on our roster and ready to go! With her experience, leadership and athleticism, we know she will be a key player to help us take home another gold medal in 2020.
4) Tobin Heath :-
Tobin Heath (born February 10, 1989) is an American soccer player who currently plays as a midfielder and forward for Portland Thorns FC in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She has also played professionally in France and Japan, as well as with the United States women's national soccer team.
5) Megan Rapinoe :-
Megan Rapinoe is an American soccer player who has been a member of the United States women's national soccer team since 2006 and has competed in three FIFA World Cups and two Olympics. She is currently playing with Seattle Reign FC in the National Women's Soccer League and on loan to French club Olympique Lyon, with whom she won her first UEFA Champions League trophy in 2019.
6) Crystal Dunn :-
- Crystal Dunn was born on December 2, 1993 in Rockville, Maryland and grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland
- She is a professional soccer player who plays as a winger or forward (although she has also played as a defender) and is currently playing with the North Carolina Courage of the National Women's Soccer League
- With over 100 goals, Crystal Dunn is one of two players (the other being Abby Wambach) to score 50 or more goals in both a FIFA World Cup and Olympics
7) Samantha Mewis :-
Growing up in the small town of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Samantha Mewis never saw herself as an elite athlete. But she always loved sports and was a natural on the soccer field. It was only until she moved to North Carolina in 2009 that she began to grow into her true potential as a player and leader. She is now one of 12 amazing women who will compete for the U.S. at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, pending approval from the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee.
8) Christen Press :-
Christen Press is one of 12 women who have been selected to represent the United States in the Olympics in 2020, pending approval from the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee. Press has played on five different teams during her international career, including stints with Sweden and Brazil. She's also a World Cup champion, scoring twice against Germany in 2016. Press was captain of Stanford's 2009 NCAA championship team and won two Hermann Trophy awards.
9) Ali Krieger :-
Ali Krieger is an American soccer player who currently plays as a defender and midfielder for Orlando Pride in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and the United States women's national soccer team (USWNT). She first represented her country with the USWNT in 2006, at age 22, and has since made over 200 appearances.
Krieger played professionally in Sweden before joining Washington Freedom in 2007, where she was part of a Championship-winning team.
10) Kelley O'Hara :-
O'Hara, who is a member of the National Team since 2013, has been on three World Championship teams and two Olympic teams, and is also a two-time gold medalist. She was part of the team that won gold in 2012 London and 2016 Rio de Janeiro, as well as silver in 2014 Incheon.
11) Alyssa Naeher :-
Alyssa is a goalkeeper who has been with the national team since 2012. She has made more than 60 international appearances and helped lead her team to two World Cup gold medals in 2015 and 2019, as well as a pair of Olympic gold medals in 2016 and 2020. She is coming off a standout season with the National Women's Soccer League's Chicago Red Stars, where she was named Goalkeeper of the Year.
12) Emily Sonnett :-
Emily Sonnett is a two-time Olympian who played pivotal roles in helping the United States win gold in Beijing and London. Sonnett's experience of playing on three World Cup championship teams will be invaluable to Team USA's quest for an Olympic medal. She was most recently named as one of 10 players to represent the United States at 2018 FIVB World Championships where she averaged 3.5 points, 2 assists, and 2 blocks per set over 11 matches during her time on court.
